Hotlum/Wintun - Brewer Ck Trailhead
General Conditions
Although snow totals on the mountain this year reached a mere 45 percent of average, solid skiing conditions still exist on the East Side of the mountain. Skiers will have to carry their gear for roughly a thousand vertical feet and 1.5-2 miles before transitioning to skinning. Smooth skiing conditions exist on the Hotlum snowfield as a result of the recent corn cycle and there was no evidence of ice at or near Ship Rock. Additionally, no evidence of rock fall or wet loose avalanches was observed. Crampons, an ice axe and the ability to properly use them is required for those looking to recreate safely on the Hotlum/ Wintun.
***Summit Passes (required for travel above 10,000 feet), Wilderness Permits and Human Waste Pack-out Bags are available at the Brewer Creek Trailhead.***
One can drive all the way to the trailhead. The road is rough, but 4wd is not required.
