Red Butte

A tour to Red Butte, east of the Old Ski Bowl, saw the following conditions:

• Ski penetration (PS): 0 to 5 inches, depending on the new snow's exposure to wind.
• Westerly aspects were becoming scoured.
• Easterly aspects, gullies, lee areas, and other wind protected areas hosted up to 5 inches of new snow. Depending on wind affect, this snow was chalky, low density throughout, or low density under a thin wind board layer. All is sitting atop the old icy snowpack. "Sloughy" conditions exist on steep slopes.
• A couple of very small, isolated winds slabs were triggered on test slopes but nothing notable or indicative of a widespread problem. Overall, the snowpack was stable.
• Total height of snow near Yellow Butte (8,200 ft): 210 cm (83 in).
