Snowpack Observations

Details

Observations at Castle Lake:

  • Height of snow (HS): 80 cm (31 in).
  • No signs of instability.
  • Breakable and supportable crusts in sun exposed areas (Right Peak).
  • A few inches of dry snow in shady areas below Heart Lake and Left Peak.
  • Ridge lines and mountain tops scoured and wind affected.
  • Thin, widespread surface hoar.
  • Supportable ice on lake. No snow on ice. Thin ice near submerged logs along shoreline.
  • Bootpack trail to Heart Lake in.
