Snowpack Observations

Details

Mount Shasta Ski Park saw 1 in of new snow overnight and about 5 inches of new by the 4 p.m. on 1/9/17.

Winds at the top of Coyote Butte were steady, SW at about 15-20 mph. A cornice and some wind loading has occured near the top of coyote butte. A stout 6cm rain crust has formed from the rain event on 1/8/17. Stabiltiy tests indicate a mostly stable snow pack, though a CT11 Q1 failure was observed in the soft rounded grains below the 12/13 layer (see pic). A subsequent ECT test yielded no failure in the  same layer.
