Details

  • No recent avalanches observed
  • Blowing snow visible above 9k – primarily loading easterly aspects
  • Drifts of snow 2-4 ft deep
  • Roller balls on steep south facing slopes up to 9k
  • Height of storm snow ranged from 40-70cm
  • Height of snow ranged from 120cm-200cm+ between 7,000-9,000 ft on the south side of Mount Shasta
  • Small wind lips and cornices along ridgelines
  • New snow is bonded well to itself and the old snow surface
  • Compression tests produced resistant planar factures within the storm snow and at the old/new interface. Extended column tests produced fractures on the old/new interface but no propagation (ECTN 25 down 60cm x2)
