News from Castle Lake

There is still snow left at Castle Lake for winter recreation. There is up to 18 inches in places. The most snow remains on Middle Peak and the only access is via the Heart Lake Trail which is well tracked and covered in snow. The ice on the lake is thin and melted out around the edges. No wet loose activity was seen and cornces on north facing ridges, though small, are still intact. The manzanita on Right Peak is fully exposed and no routes for skiers are open even with extreme manzaneering skills. See the photos below for the full story.
