Bunny Flat - 11.2.22
Mt. Shasta stepped into winter in about 6 hours yesterday. Snow rapidly accumulated during the morning daylight hours and brought 4-6 inches of fresh snow to the mountain. Several inches also fell in Mt Shasta City. From our Old Ski Bowl weather station, snow-water equivalent (SWE) shook out to .36". https://www.shastaavalanche.org/weather/weather-stations/skibowl-stats
We saw one set of ski tracks headed up the road past the gate at Bunny Flat yesterday. This is our first real snow accumulation of the winter. Any cross-country skiing is limited to roads at this time, but more is on the way!
Please note that all Mt Shasta Wilderness trailheads are CLOSED for the season, except Bunny Flat. For all closed trailheads, you can still access them, but roads may be impassable due to snow. Summit passes, wilderness permits and human waste wag bags must be attained at either the Mt Shasta or McCloud Ranger Stations, or The Fifth Season gear store in Mt Shasta City. For more questions, feel free to call the ranger station for more info: 530-926-4511.
