Snowpack at Cliff Lakes

Observations near Cliff Lake:

• The height of snow (HS): 147 inches (375 cm).
• Ski penetration: 2 inch (5 cm).
• Boot penetration: 6 inch ( 15 cm).
• A test profile was dug at 6,000 feet on NW aspect. See photo below.
• Column and block test results:
  • Column test, sudden planar failure on isolation down 2 inches, repeated 2 times (CTV SP x 2 ↓ 2 in); failure below surface crust on dry snow.
  • Column test, 12 taps, sudden planar failure down 16 inches (CT12 SP ↓ 16 in); failure on 4F to 1F density break.
  • Column test, 12 taps, sudden planar failure down 19 inches (CT12 SP ↓ 19 in); failure just above ice layer.
  • Extended column test, 13 taps, non-propagating failure down 9 inches (ECTN13 ↓ 9 in).
  • Extended column test, 22 taps, non-propagating failure down 16 inches (ECTN22 ↓ 16 in).
